It says "opinion". I don't give a shit about technique or whatnot, he was a huge person during this cup. I prefer to be starry eyed than rational when it comes to football, no one I root for ever wins anyway.

Everybody shut the fuck up. If we can tolerate Americans we can find room for this weirdo. He emigrated to Aberdeen, for Christ's sake.

That already indicates a stunning lack of Judgement right there.

edit: I appreciate the irony of that, coming from someone who emigrated to the isle of man. I will shut up and move into the corner right there.

Someone writing for the Guardian agrees with me.

Paul Doyle wrote:

Landon Donovan – Seldom taken seriously by snooty Europeans, he exuded a verve and creativity that many of the old continent's stars lacked, and typified the positive attitude with which his team played even in the face of ridiculous refereeing.

Paul Doyle is an utter idiot. Seriously, read the rest of the rubbish he writes, and you will change opinion just not to be associated with the guy. They have 2 sports writers who are an insult to their profession, Doyle and that Richard Williams dude. Utter idiots, all of them.

Read the rest of what he writes...

32 teams is too many. Trim back to 24 and make Europe bear most of the cuts.

32 teams is too many indeed (even a stopped clock bla bla bla) but make Europe take the cuts? Europe provided 3 of the 4 semifinalists this year, 7 of 8 quarter finalists in Japorea, 6 of the quarter finalists in Germany, so lets kick out those dastardly Europeans for being good! What the world cup needs are 6 Africans teams, and more teams like Honduras and North Korea and New Zealand...

I Apologize for ranting, but you picked the one writer who absolutely infuriates me, making a point which absolutely enrages me.

Yay, I'm feeling the love.

I'm not familiar with Doyle, but I like his point about Donovan, especially about staying positive with all that bullshit reffing going on.

You'll have to excuse me, I've only recently decided to become seriously involved in football and my knowledge is only very superficial.

Thats OK, mocking is the way we erudite members of the kickball forum show our appreciation. You may have to begin to support, or at least pretend to support, a premier league team to truly be a member of the happy family.

I've decided to support the Dons, yet my ignorance about them is impeding me from really taking off. Could anyone give me a quick synthesis about what to know and what to say and not say about them? It would be greatly appreciated.

Have you developed a Scottish accent yet?

Almost. I pick up accents really easily, having spent my childhood in international schools.

You don't say.

Basically, you're fucked. In the dogshit kingdom that is the SPL, the Dons are the chief turd. Last season they played football of such ineptitude that it brought grown men to tears.

Well, I live in Aberdeen, so it seemed like a logical choice, but didn't they like win a shitload or something back in the day?
